As a woman, I can safely say that I know the kinder, gentler sex rather well. Having lived the life, I dare anyone to dispute me on that point. So, I guess you could say I’m somewhat of an expert. Again, dispute me if you will, but I’m claiming it right here and now.
It is with my 49 years of experience that I plead with you as I shout: “STOP PUTTING YOURSELF AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR TO-DO LIST!”
You wonder why you’re being looked over and picked over in the workplace. You complain there’s no time for your own personal or professional development (but you encourage your employees, your children, your nephew, your partner). You make a list of all the things you need to get done for the prosperity, growth and happiness of others. Where are YOU in this picture? Perhaps you’ve become more of a human-doing than a human-being.
Here’s where I bring in a professional to back me up. He’s one of the most sensible professionals I’ve ever heard. You can love him or hate him. He’s Dr. Phil. A truer statement has never been made when he repeatedly states “You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge.” Have you taken an honest look at where you are in life’s journey? Are you where you want to be? Is this the end of your life’s road?
If you answered ‘no’ to any of those questions, commit yourself to doing something different today. Seize the moment. Seize this day. Learn something new today, and every day. Stretch your mind in new directions. This is how we become more than we are. Commit yourself to doing things that get you farther down YOUR road. Don’t wait for tomorrow. All you have is this moment. If you let this moment slip away, today becomes just like yesterday, and the day before.
Question the story you’re telling yourself about where you are in life. How you got there. And what you’re capable of. Flip the negative story you’re telling yourself into a positive story. No one can change YOUR life except YOU. Change your story. Change your life. Make your life into the vision you have for yourself.
The Little PINK Book article “Irrational Optimism?” was the spark to this verbal tirade. When I read the article, I dropped everything to share it with you. Now it’s your turn. What are you going to do to seize the moment?
What are you going to do differently today?
Fill in the blank: Today I am going to ______________________________________.
Repeat with each new day on the journey to the life you envision for yourself.
